What is the difference between a steel cone grinder and a stone grinder?
A steel cone grinder can process dry grains as well as smaller quantities of oily seeds. For example, spice mixtures can be made. It is not possible to process oilseeds with a stone grinder. However, various types of grain can be processed into particularly fine and fluffy flour. Which grinder is best suited for you depends on what you want to process with it.
Grain mill with steel cone grinder:
What foods can I grind with the steel cone grinder?
Grains: wheat, spelt, green spelt, rye, barley, buckwheat, millet, rice, oats. All dried spices, herbs, and mushrooms. Oilseeds: flaxseed, sesame, soy.
What do I need to consider when grinding oilseeds?
Never grind oilseeds at the finest setting, as this could clog the grinder. After grinding oily seeds, we recommend grinding dry grains afterwards.
How do I adjust the grinding fineness?
The grinding fineness is always adjusted starting from setting unit 7 during the grinding process. You start with the setting on coarse and also reset the grinding fineness to "coarse" after use.
- Finer: counter-clockwise and ONLY during the grinding process
- Coarser: turn clockwise, also possible when stationary
How can I clean the grain mill?
Remove the grain mill attachment from the drive unit and remove the hopper. Turn the locking ring counter-clockwise. Now you can remove the adjustment unit, the steel cone grinder, and the auger. Clean the grinder and the adjustment unit with a brush and a small brush. The plastic parts, except for the adjustment unit, can be washed by hand or in the dishwasher. After complete drying, reassemble the grain mill in reverse order.
Grain mill with stone grinder:
What foods can I grind with the stone grinder?
Dry, hull-free grains such as buckwheat, spelt, emmer, barley, green spelt, oats, millet, rice, rye, wheat, etc.
Attention: Oilseeds CANNOT be ground with the stone grinder! Grinding corn, spice grains, poppy seeds, and flax seeds will destroy the grinder.
What do I need to consider when grinding?
Do not run the grain mill attachment for extended periods without grain. Prolonged idling leads to increased wear. Do not use moist grain, as this will clog the grinder.
How do I adjust the grinding fineness?
You can adjust the desired grinding fineness with the scale knob when the attachment is empty. Adjusting to a fine grinding fineness should only be done in small steps and by repeatedly switching the drive on briefly.
- Finer: clockwise and only by repeatedly switching on briefly
- Coarser: counter-clockwise, also possible when stationary
How can I clean the grain mill?
Remove the grain mill attachment from the drive unit and remove the hopper. Hold the grinding cone firmly and turn the scale knob counter-clockwise until the scale knob with the grinding cone can be pulled off the hexagonal shaft. Clean the plastic parts only with lukewarm water and dish soap (not dishwasher safe!). You can clean the inside and outside of the grinder with a dry, stiff brush or a whisk.
How often should I clean the attachment?
The grinder does not need to be cleaned after every use. With proper use, it cleans itself through the grinding process. After some time or if the mill has not been used for a longer period, a thorough cleaning is advisable.
